Stefan Stein Quoted in ALM Article About Midsize Firms Returning to the Office

ALM quoted Sherman & Howard CEO Stefan Stein in the recent article “Midsize Firms Scrutinize Sporadic Partner Attendance in Return to Office Push.” The article discusses the importance of attorneys returning to the office post-pandemic, especially for the benefit of young associates who are looking for mentorship and collaboration with partners of a firm.

Below is an excerpt from the article.

“We are emphasizing that for associates to be here, our [partners] need to set an example,” said Stefan Stein, the CEO of Sherman & Howard, a 150-lawyer firm based in Denver. “If our members’ attendance is sporadic, that doesn’t send the right message either.”

Stein said lawyers and staff at the firm are operating on a hybrid model, with the firm encouraging employees to be in the office for more than half of their work week.

“We’ve emphasized that we’d like associates to be here regularly,” Stein said. “One-on-one contact is critical for mentorship, collaboration, teamwork and culture. Soaking up the experience, knowledge, and guidance of others through those in-person interactions—there’s no substitute for that.”
