Law Students

Our application window for our 2023 Summer Associate Program has closed. We will begin accepting applications for the 2024 Summer Associate Program on July 31, 2023.

Sherman & Howard’s innovative summer program is fast-paced and challenging with invaluable feedback.

We immerse our summer associates into the daily responsibilities of practicing at a modern, full-service firm with a long history of success.

Established in 1892 with a history of forward-thinking, our firm has grown over time, evolving to meet our clients’ changing needs. Starting as a single-lawyer firm in Denver, we are now a firm of more than 175 lawyers serving clients across the nation. Our firm has eight offices located in Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.

Our summer program features:

CAPSTONE PROJECT

Our program culminates with a challenging, deep-dive, practice-specific assignment that enables our summer associates to demonstrate their research, writing, analytical, oral-presentation, and time-management skills. All associates will generate professional work products, present their assignment results to attorneys across the firm, and gain experience they can use to advance their careers.

MENTORSHIP

We assign both an associate and a member for personalized and dedicated support. Mentors support summer associates with work-assignment guidance, coaching, and feedback.

FEEDBACK

We know how critical frequent, high-quality feedback is at this stage in our associates’ careers, so we provide it often, with advice on ways to hone their skills. We leverage technology to make delivering and receiving feedback easy, and our culture encourages lots of candid input—in all directions.

PRACTICE SELECTION

For the first part of the summer, our summer associates will work in a variety of practice areas and receive litigation and transactional assignments. At the program’s midpoint, they will have the opportunity to select a service area on which to focus for the remainder of the summer.
