President Trump To Tap FedEx Safety Head to Lead OSHA

By Pat Miller, Rod Smith, Chuck Newcom, Matt Morrison, and Alyssa Levy

On October 27, 2017, the White House announced its intention to nominate Scott Mugno to the position of Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA. Mr. Mugno currently is the Vice President for Safety, Sustainability and Vehicle Maintenance at FedEx Ground. Prior to that, he has served in various capacities as an attorney, including a stint in the Unites States Army JAG Corps.

Mr. Mugno’s nomination had been widely speculated for quite some time. His nomination will require Senate approval. If approved, he will take over the position most recently held by Dr. David Michaels, an Obama appointee. As the head of OSHA, Mr. Mugno will be responsible for guiding the Agency’s enforcement and regulatory agenda. Mr. Mugno has a solid safety and health background, and is well-respected in the safety and health community. We will provide further updates on his nomination as they develop.
