DENVER (November 8, 2022) – Three of Sherman & Howard’s attorneys will work with the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) to advocate for civil rights and public policy issues for underserved populations.

Stephen Robin, who served the past year as co-chair of the Legal Night Team, will continue to serve in that post; Russ Johnson was elected to co-chair of fundraising and events, and Shannon Calhoun will join the Legal Night Team as well.

Legal Night is held twice a month in Denver for people in need of legal services who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. It gives new attorneys a chance to work alongside more experienced attorneys in real legal situations.

The S&H attorneys are part of a larger group of young lawyers working to hone their leadership skills by being involved in the CLC. The CLC is made up of representatives from nearly 80 law firms in Denver that are “dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for children, the poor, and other disadvantaged communities through pro bono legal advocacy, negotiation, and litigation,” according to its website. The YLD was created to give young attorneys and law students opportunities to work on community legal issues while learning from those with more experience.

The CLC has on average 20 active community projects and task forces in the areas of poverty and public benefits, civil rights and criminal law, children’s rights and education, community development, and immigration. Learn about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
