Citizens Challenge Validity of Ann Kirkpatrick’s Nominating Petitions

Tucson, AZ (June 12, 2018) Yesterday, on behalf of three Southern Arizona citizens Sherman & Howard’s LLC filed the necessary paperwork to present a legal challenge to the validity of the petitions filed by Ann Kirkpatrick for the Democratic nomination to represent the Second District of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives. Kirkpatrick has held state and federal offices representing Northern Arizona for more than a decade. The suit was filed in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Three voters, represented by attorneys, Craig Morgan, Ilya Prokopets, and David A. Weatherwax, all qualified electors in Southern Arizona, say that Kirkpatrick has knowingly and deliberately misled them and other voters of Southern Arizona by claiming that she lives in Southern Arizona when in fact she does not.

“I was floored when I learned Ann Kirkpatrick doesn’t live in Southern Arizona but feels entitled to run for office from here without actually being a part of this community.  My husband and I have three children, and we feel a lot is at stake in this election,” said co-plaintiff Regina Mireles-Elias, resident of Tucson.

Added co-plaintiff Dr. Tuan Vo, also of Tucson: “After learning what I have, I feel only a Southern Arizonan can really represent our community and our values, and unfortunately, Kirkpatrick has lost her credibility.”

Co-plaintiffs Regina and Tom Elias are lifelong Southern Arizonans who are passionate about their community. They live with their three children in Tucson. Co-plaintiff Dr. Tuan Vo is a practicing family physician born and raised in Tucson.  He lives and works in southern Arizona along with many members of his nuclear and extended family.
