As the cable industry grew up in the Denver area, Sherman & Howard grew up with it. As cable transformed the way consumers access information, our client base and our expertise changed with it, to include Internet and electronic media transactions and activities. This practice area, which began in the late 1960s, spans a wide variety of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, finance, litigation, intellectual property, labor negotiations, employment discrimination, employee benefits, securities law, general corporate, operational and governance matters. We have closed thousands of transactions for cable television, Internet, and media clients, worldwide. To this day, we continue to maintain a robust presence in the industry, representing several of the largest companies in North America that participate in the industry.
As advisors to the true pioneers of the cable industry, we have developed not only a high level of expertise, but also a wealth and depth of experience that simply cannot be duplicated elsewhere. We know all of the major industry participants, from the MSOs to the programmers and the brokers, at both the institutional and individual levels. Our knowledge and history reaches from the corporate boardrooms of the largest MSOs down to the smallest systems.
We have more than two dozen attorneys with substantial and current cable industry experience that dates back decades. Many of us have unique industry perspectives, including three of our attorneys with more than 10 years experience as cable executives, one of whom is the former General Counsel of United Artists, TCI and AT&T Broadband, and currently sits on the board of GCI; another of whom was a Senior VP at AT&T Broadband; and the third of whom managed the mergers and acquisitions activity for a top 5 MSO.
