DENVER (October 12, 2022) – Sherman & Howard is pleased to announce the hiring of corporate law veteran Evy Duek as an associate in the firm’s corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and aerospace practices.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome Evy to the firm,” said Lyle Wallace, who serves as the firm’s Business and Real Estate practice group leader. “Evy’s international background and his incredible leadership experience as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces provide maturity and gravity to our team.  In addition, his deep tax background is a welcome resource to or corporate and M&A clients.”

Duek, a native of Israel, brings years of valuable leadership, training, and business savvy to the firm.

He got his start in leadership skills training in the Israeli Defense Force. Having fulfilled his required three years in the service, he continued to serve for another four years. He graduated from the IDF Officer Training School as an honorary cadet. He commanded and trained soldiers for endeavors on land, sea, and high-altitude rescue missions.

Duek said his military training gave him the confidence he needed to take on new challenges in his education and business. “I’d say it definitely impacted me fundamentally. The main thing it helped me with is just confidence in knowing you’re capable of doing things you didn’t think you were. As a young guy who looked for challenges, that was a great challenge, and after that, everything looks easy.”

Duek moved to Paris and earned a master’s degree in international business law from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University. There, he also co-founded a French Israeli startup until he moved to America to go to law school at UCLA, where he earned a master’s of law in business and tax law. He spent the past three years as a mergers and acquisitions associate at San Francisco-based Alvarez and Marsal.

Duek said he has a fascination with the American dream. The move to Colorado, he said, affords him that in addition to the amazing outdoor opportunities he seeks. Duek said he is looking forward to ski season and hiking Colorado’s beautiful trails.

“It sounds cliche, but it’s true,” Duek said. “I’m a big believer in being involved in the business community and charities, and Denver is a fantastic place to do both.”
