Sherman & Howard Elects Five New Members

DENVER, Colo. (January 23, 2020) – Sherman & Howard is pleased to announce that Cody Barela, Nick DeWeese, Jessica Diaz, Beth Ann Lennon, and Jennifer Szkatulski have been elected as members of the firm.

Cody Barela is a Corporate & Transactional member in Sherman & Howard’s Denver, Colorado office. He works closely with companies of all sizes at all stages of growth on a diverse set of technology-related transactions. With a strong technology and engineering background, and experience working internally for companies, Cody is able to help clients develop successful contracting strategies to address data security risks. Cody also advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate operations, and general business matters including entity formation, structure, and governance, and provides guidance on intellectual property matters, including copyright, trademark, and infringement issues.

Nick DeWeese is a Litigation, Trials, & Appeals member in Sherman & Howard’s Denver, Colorado office. Nick maintains a diverse and complex litigation practice, representing clients in large commercial disputes and in complex contractual, tort, property, financial, healthcare, and other matters. Nick also has recently handled a range of intellectual property disputes, including Lanham Act and trademark- and patent-infringement claims, for pharmaceutical, medical products, and other national companies.

Jessica Diaz is an Estate & Tax Planning member in Sherman & Howard’s Denver, Colorado office, where she focuses her practice on sophisticated estate, tax, and business succession planning. She works closely with clients to address a variety of planning needs and designs creative solutions that integrate each client’s family values and dynamics with sophisticated wealth transfer strategies. Jessica’s practice also includes business, marital, and charitable planning; as well as estate and trust administration and probate litigation.

Beth Ann Lennon is a Labor & Employment member in Sherman & Howard’s Denver, Colorado office. She counsels Colorado employers and national companies in all aspects of their labor and employment law needs, from drafting policies and contracts to providing guidance and representation when faced with agency action or litigation in state or federal court. Utilizing alternative dispute resolution tools, such as mediation and arbitration, or seeking early resolution through motions practice, Beth Ann has successfully obtained early and cost-effective dismissals for her clients.

Jennifer Szkatulski is an Estate & Tax Planning member in Sherman & Howard’s Scottsdale, Arizona office. She advises individuals and families on wealth transfer planning, estate and gift tax planning, charitable planning, and trust administration. Utilizing creative approaches, Jennifer focuses on each client’s individual needs by creating tax-advantaged structures to assist clients in carrying out their vision, including both financial and philosophical goals for their families and communities. Additionally, Jennifer guides her clients in meeting their social and philanthropic goals as part of their overall estate planning objectives.
