Litigation Attorney Shayna Stuart Joins Sherman & Howard’s Phoenix Office

PHOENIX (October 26, 2022) – Sherman & Howard is pleased to announce the addition of litigation attorney Shayna Stuart to the firm’s Phoenix team.

“We are pleased to have Shayna join our team,” said Gregory Falls, managing partner of Sherman & Howard’s Phoenix office. “Her litigation experience, commitment to justice, and dedication to the community is a welcome addition to our team. Shayna will help us tremendously in fulfilling our growing client service needs.”

Litigation Practice Group Leader Katherine Varholak mirrored Falls’ comments and said Stuart will be a valuable addition to the team. “The addition of Shayna in our Phoenix office will further strengthen our ability to serve our clients.”

Having spent the past four years with another firm, Stuart comes to Sherman & Howard with trial experience, including helping to secure a $1.5 million verdict in a defamation trial, helping to effect policy changes to better support the rights of the deaf and hard of hearing community in Arizona and zealously advocating for her clients’ rights in a widely publicized Arizona police-officer involved wrongful death case.

“I never underestimate the power of thinking outside of the box,” said Stuart. “I don’t like to define who I am or what I’m capable of doing. I’m always up for a challenge or trying new approaches because you never know unless you try.”

Stuart received her Juris Doctorate in 2018 from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2014 from California State University, San Bernardino, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team, served as team captain for two years, and served on the executive counsel for the school’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee. During her time in law school, she interned for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and served as an Honors Intern for the Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Investigations in Los Angeles. She also served as the Note and Comments editor for the school’s Sports and Entertainment Law Journal and as a student assistant for professor Glenn Wong, who is the executive director of the Sports Law and Business Program.

Working with the FBI, where she assisted in investigations, Stuart said she was able to develop her investigative skills, something she enjoys and puts to use in her law practice. Advocating and earning justice for her clients is an integral part of her respect for the law.

“I really value and appreciate the opportunities that we as attorneys are given to have a voice in the courtroom. We are so privileged because we get to speak on behalf of clients, and sometimes the larger community, in advocating for people or people’s rights. It’s incredible that we get to fight for something bigger than ourselves. Through law school, I got hit with this reality, not everyone gets to speak, but I can. It is very humbling and holds great importance to me.”

Stuart takes giving back to the community seriously, donating her time as a trainer and coach for the Hoop Code Basketball Academy, one of Arizona’s leading youth basketball programs. Previously, she volunteered for the Disabilities Sports Festival, working with differently abled individuals. She has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
