March 20, 2018 – Sherman & Howard’s business attorney, Katherine Snow, will be joining her team at the Inaugural Global Legal Hackathon Finals in New York City on April 21. Ms. Snow and her team, that comprises of another attorney and four developers, have successfully gone through two rigorous rounds before their selection to the finals. The goal of the event is to merge technology and law in order to solve common legal accessibility problems. Ms. Snow’s team chose the plain language contracting issue. Together they developed, LexLucid, a platform for corporate transparency. The platform allows attorneys to grade consumer contracts on their general fairness.
“LexLucid has the potential to be a powerful consumer tool, that alerts users to what’s in the terms of the online contracts that they agree to,” said Ms. Snow. “Publicly ranking the overall fairness of a company’s contract may incentivize corporations to modify terms flagged as unfair to consumers.”
The Global Legal Hackathon engages law schools, law firms and in-house departments, legal technology companies, governments, and service providers to the legal industry – across the globe. It brings together the best thinkers, doers, and practitioners in law in support of a unified vision: rapid development of solutions to improve the legal industry, world-wide.
