November 1, 2017 – The Associated Builders and Contractors Rocky Mountain Chapter’s quarterly magazine, Merit Builder, featured Scott Shea’s article, “Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Don’t Let Your Drones Go Rogue.”  Recent natural disasters in the southern United States has launched  drones into the spotlight again with its usage with cleanup, recovery, repair, and rebuilding.  The article highlights how construction businesses face potential legal risks of commercial drone operation in the construction industry, including issues relating to state and federal aviation regulations, privacy concerns, and insurance coverage.  “Most would agree the drone operator has the best job on a construction site.  The technology is both full of promise and fun to use, but commercial drone operators must understand the applicable regulations and their risks in order to realize the full potential of drone operation.”
