Mike Kosma is a people person who thrives on interactions with his clients and seeing their success. As a mechanical engineer turned intellectual property attorney and strategist, he has extensive experience assisting both startups and established businesses with patent and trademark litigation and prosecution, as well as handling complex contested matters in federal courts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition to his prosecution work, Mike focuses on complex contested matters in federal courts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has led or served on numerous commercial and intellectual property lawsuits, including multiple trial teams. Mike has experience arguing before the district courts, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, Patent Trial, and Appeal Board (PTAB), and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Clients appreciate Mike’s energy and dedication to finding the best possible solution to their legal challenges, often avoiding trial by settlement when appropriate.

His successes include asserting patents against large international companies in district courts, representing clients in nearly 20 Inter Partes Review (IPR) and Covered Business Method Review (CBM) proceedings before the PTAB, winning a contract case on summary judgment, enforcing a brand’s trademark rights in a full trial proceeding before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and later in district court, and handling general commercial matters. Recently, Mike secured a Preliminary Injunction for his client in a breach of contract dispute.

With a deep understanding of his clients’ business needs, he develops strategies to meet their long- and short-term goals, such as securing valuable patents and trademarks or implementing licensing programs. His industry experience spans aerospace, automotive, chemical, clothing and consumer brands, computer software, electric power, financial products, medical devices, mining, oil and gas, robotics, and wind and solar power.

Mike counsels clients on their current needs and sets them up for future success, offering a comprehensive approach to their intellectual property matters.
