Requirements for this position include knowledge of business English and generally accepted legal terms; experience in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel; experience drafting basic legal documents; understanding and experience e-filing as appropriate; Typing of 70+ wpm; ability to prepare, organize and maintain records and reports; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; excellent proofreading skills, and great attention to detail. Ability to organize and prioritize projects simultaneously. Must have great customer service skills; ability to employ, understand and appreciate existing firm and client processes. Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Primary duties include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents; typing correspondence, pleadings, contracts, other documents and/or memoranda in draft and in final form from handwritten material, typing copy and transcription tapes. Significant experience in intellectual property is preferred, specifically in software development, intellectual property licensing transactions, technology transfer, joint ventures, strategic alliances, development agreements, reseller and distribution agreements, e-commerce and similar technology transactions. Duties will include negotiation, drafting, and due diligence, and will involve a significant level of client contact. Strong attention to detail and client service skills are required. ERISA / Employee Benefits Paralegal – Denver

Sherman & Howard L.L.C. is seeking a part-time or full-time ERISA paralegal to join its Tax & Probate Department.

Candidates should have 1-5 years of experience in employee benefit paralegal matters, be detail-oriented, and possess excellent writing and organizational skills. Experience with qualified plan administration is desired, as well as familiarity with the Datair administration system. Designation as “QPA” is also highly desired.

Duties of this position include assisting in drafting retirement plan documents, performance of discrimination testing, review of plan contributions, and IRS filings.

A 4-year undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials is preferred.

Labor & Employment Paralegal – Denver

Sherman & Howard L.L.C. is seeking a paralegal to work with the Labor & Employment Law Department of its Denver office.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of business training and experience is required. A certificate of completion from a Paralegal school or institute and two plus years of experience providing paralegal support for attorneys in litigation or Labor & Employment law practice and in both federal and state court are preferred.

This position requires comfort and proficiency with technical systems and, specifically, with litigation support databases and trial presentation software. Candidates should have the ability and desire to learn new systems quickly and to use them on a high-volume basis. Experience with Eclipse, CaseMap, Law, and Trial Director is highly desirable.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS: The position involves all of the following: Knowledge of business English, spelling and grammar and generally accepted legal terms. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to organize, prepare and maintain detailed records and reports. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Ability to plan, organize and carry out assignments in a timely manner. Knowledge of litigation and court rules and procedures. Ability to set up and organize case databases, create checklists and other records. Knowledge of legal and general research techniques and the use of software systems available for conducting legal research. Ability to interview witnesses and gather relevant evidence. Ability to prepare and analyze technical information/reports. Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with attorneys, clients and other employees.

Fluency in Spanish preferred.
